Lance Armstrong
1999 was a great year for public awareness
of testicular cancer, due to the stirring story of Lance
Armstrong. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in October
1996, and the cancer had spread to his abdominal lymph nodes,
lungs and brain. He chose to have his therapy at the Indiana
University Cancer Center. His incredible triumph in
the grueling Tour de France represented one of the most
dramatic sports comebacks of the century. His victory captured
the public imagination like no other sports story in recent
memory. They were proud to be his physicians and to have
discovered the successful therapy for testicular cancer
that made his win possible.
